crowning glory

To be the best, is to be supreme - Caleb Alex from Servilles Newmarket won the prestigious Supreme Award on Saturday night at the L'Oreal Color Trophy Awards.

His winning style is a short, textured cut that is somehow both pretty and edgy. It clearly suits his gorgeous model (who would probably look hot in any hairstyle), with length at the front and a cropped finish at the back. The colour is modern, wearable and more than a mere nod to the blonde trends we'll see as we head towards summer (go blonder and lighter is the mantra).

Caleb has been in the industry since graduating from the Servilles Academy in 1999 and enjoys challenging the status quo. What does he see in the future for hairdressing?

"I think hair styles will be more technical, structured and strong, while colour will become bolder," he says.

What do you think of his winning style? Have you or would you chop off all your hair or go lighter?

Hmmmm I can’t really go much lighter as my natural colour is already light blonde (and I am not keen on the white peroxide look). I have considered going brown but am a bit scared of such a huge change. In terms of length what it boils down to for me is time. Basically I am lazy! I can’t be bothered spending an hour in the morning drying/straightening/styling my hair. My hair has a natural wave which results in any length above my shoulders adopting an afro resemblance - or as my husband puts it I become a ‘triangle head’! So it is easier if I keep it at a length where I can tie it back quickly on those disaster days and where I can just run out the door with it wet and it doesn’t transform me into a triangle head!

I agree - naturally wavy hair can tend to 'bouf' up when cut short - length gives it weight.
What about a fringe?

I would love a fringe but have a "cowslick" right in the middle of my forehead - doesn't lend itself well to fringes unless they are llong and I blow dry it every morning across my face etc - which again is the time factor/laziness thing! I am just destined to have long hair - god knows what I will do in my 40s/50s......
